The Senate of the State of California has officially awarded the annual Downey Dia de Los Muertos Art Festival a “Certificate of Recognition” for their support of local artists, musicians, dancers, and vendors, attracting upwards of 30,000 attendees, and honoring an important Latinx tradition.
Jason Chacon, Director of Parks & Recreation, commented that “The annual event has brought the City recognition and prestige, and is a significant area-wide gathering for families to share an important historical tradition.”
For the past ten years, the Festival has presented a wide variety of artistic expressions, including painting and sculpture, traditional altars, dancers, musicians, print and painting workshops, classic films, children’s bilingual story-times and puppet shows, plus a variety of cuisines and shopping options.
This year’s 10th annual event will be presented on Sunday, Oct. 29, from 11 am – 8 pm, in and around the Downey Theatre, 8435 Firestone Blvd. Attendance and parking are free.
